Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Planners groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
